World Surf League Finals Event Coverage
Team USA showed out at the 2023 World Surf League Finals! In order to garner excitment for the relatively new Olympic sport ahead of 2024 Paris, we captured content highlighting the event and the Team USA athletes hoping to punch their ticket to the Games.
Results
With champion Caroline Marks, the content was able to showcase the true excitement of surfing to a much broader Team USA audience that's hungry to learn more about the athletes that could represent them at the Olympics.
Process
We worked closely with Team USA and the World Surf League to get access to the athletes on their practice day, in order to minimize distraction on competition day. We really wanted to make sure to bring the surf vibe into the content from start to finish, so we made sure to film the interviews outside against the natural beach backdrop, and added visual effects and music to lean into that vibe.
Strategy
The goal of this project was to create content that Team USA could use not only to highlight Team USA's performances at the WSL Final, but also to bank content to use to promote tune-ins and excitement about the surf competition at the 2024 Olympics. Therefore, we had to be very strategic about how we positioned interview questions, and make sure to prompt answers to give evergreen responses that would be relevant throughout the lead up to the Games.
